I believe that parenting is a journey whether your child is 2 or 20 and I don’t claim to know it all. I have however ‘lived a life less ordinary’ from being diagnosed, and recovering from, cervical cancer, to amicably negotiating a high profile separation, to living abroad with my son for a year and facing the heartbreak of miscarriage. I believe that many of my experiences, both the big and the every day, may be of help, humour or interest to you.
So much of single parenting can feel isolating but I don’t think that has to be the case. I wanted to create the ultimate Mum Plus One blog and take other single mums on a journey with me – rather than simply preaching advice but I couldn’t do it alone. This blog is about me, you and ‘us’ – there are so many incredible women out there who have kindly shared their story with me and I’m so happy to have a blog featuring such kind and empowering single mothers.
Each category is a ‘journey’ and each journey provides stories that I hope will inspire you. You spend 99% of your life focusing on your children but I want Mum Plus One to be a place where you think about yourself, what you want and how you can be your happiest and healthiest.
When I became a ‘Mum Plus One’ I’d never lived alone, I’m terrible with budgeting money, to quote Bridget Jones ‘’I’m enjoying a relationship with two men simultaneously. The first called Ben, the other Jerry.” Essentially I’m trying to figure it all out but as the saying goes ‘a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step’. So here’s to the journey.
